Whakawatea (Special Blessing) of the newest building site at Glenbervie, Whangarei – March 2024

On 5th of March 2024, a Whakawatea was held at the newest of the Whangarei Accessible Housing Trust’s building sites at Glenbervie, Whangarei prior to any site preparation or earthworks commencing. The 3 ministers officiating and pictured above were Rev Joseph Makene (far left in photo) , Anne Kake and Philip Kake (far right in photo).

The definition in the Maori dictionary for whakawatea is: clearing, freeing, expunging, purging, removal

We also had Mike Kake and Nicki Wakefield from Pehiawere marae in attendance.

There were also representatives from the Trust – Vanassa (Chairperson – pictured above), Elinor (trustee – pictured above), Kevin and Michele. Representatives from Classic Builders were present – Ken Vinson (who is in the first  photo with the Ministers) along with Karina Heta. Assure Rentals were represented by Tony Reynolds and Betty Roxburgh.
